Best of 2010

Sleigh Bells

It is this time of year again, the time where we get countless lists outlining the best music of 2010. In my opinion it is a great time to just download what you can and listen to the songs you have missed. In the same way you can find a plethora of new music on HypeM etc… , the end of year zeitgeist that alot of music blogs produce provides many gems and artists to follow over the new year.

Instead of listing all of my favourite songs from the year I will just mention a few of my favourite artists:

Sleigh Bells - After missing them at TGE I managed to see them last month at Audio in Brighton. For me, it was probably the album which I couldn’t stop playing this year. “Infinity Guitars” and “Rill Rill” are both fantastic tracks.

James Blake – This song has been stuck in my head the last couple of months. “I Only Know (What I Know Now)” is a half decent song too.

Two Door Cinema Club – Their album ‘Tourist History’ has also been on quite heavy rotation for me this year. Every song on the record is as good as the next. I have trouble finding a bad track, that is when you know you are listening to a good album. The band have got bigger and bigger as the year has gone on. Here is a link to a good remix of ‘What You Know’ which I first heard in March:

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know (Lights Over LA Remix) (Mediafire)

Caribou – ‘Odessa’ and ‘Sun’ have been two of my favourite songs this year and the whole album ‘Swim’ deserves a mention. To quote a review from Drowned in Sound: “It has the potential to be a real ‘Oh shit, why didn’t I think of this?’ record, like when Justice’s ‘Waters of Nazareth’ crash-landed in 2005.” High praise indeed, but I think it is worth it as Dan Snaith aka Caribou has produced a great album that was born out of a desire to create “dance music that sounds like it’s made out of water.” I think it is brilliant.

Here is a list of some Best Of 2010′s that are quite good:

Pitchfork

Said The Gramophone

Gorilla Vs Bear
